KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Police say a suspect is presumed drowned after fleeing from police late Thursday night.

Around 11 p.m. Thursday, officers spotted a suspect wanted for domestic assault and burglary near Eastwood Trafficway and Blue Parkway.

Police initiated a traffic stop, but the suspect fled and led police on a chase. Officers eventually disregarded the chase due to dangerous conditions.

Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies later spotted the suspect’s truck near 12th Street and Interstate 435, which is when the suspect fled on foot and entered the Big Blue River.

The suspect appeared to struggle to swim in the river.

A deputy entered the river in an attempt to locate the suspect but did not find the suspect.

A search of the river by Kansas City, Missouri fire rescue crews was not successful.
