4 exposed to suspicious substance at Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Four people were exposed to some sort of substance found inside a cash bag at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City Thursday morning, authorities said.

Three people were decontaminated on scene and had already returned to work, Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief James Garrett said. The fourth was taken to an area hospital. That person's condition was not immediately clear.

Bank officials issued a statement saying the substance was not considered hazardous. No evacuations were ordered and they were working with the fire department to investigate what happened, an earlier statement said.

Authorities responded to the bank, 1 Memorial Way, at about 10:45 a.m.

Garrett said the incident was contained to the Money Intake Facility on the first floor.

The fire department's Hazardous Materials Unit and FBI responded to the scene.
