KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Kansas City elementary school was evacuated after a security guard found a suspicious package on campus Monday afternoon. The device was taken into police custody, and the school was given the all-clear that evening.
The package was discovered at Benjamin Banneker Charter Academy of Technology around 4:15 p.m. Police say it was found after classes were over for the day, so only about 100 people were in the building at the time of the evacuation.
According to Dr. Marian Brown, the school's superintendent, said the small device was about the size of a watch case. While the school has an award-winning robotics team, Brown said the device didn't look like any technology they normally have or see at the school.
