Search continues for Hellen Cook, missing Alzheimer's patient lost for over a week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A Missouri family continued their search Saturday morning for a loved one who wandered off a week ago.

Family members, friends, even strangers gathered at Blue Springs Assembly Church to organize search efforts in the area for 72-year old Hellen Cook. The family hopes that Hellen is in the area and they believe her years of walking for exercise will sustain her until she is found.

"She's a tough 72-year-old. She walks everyday and I know can handle herself," Sara Ellis, Cook's granddaughter added.

Volunteers canvassed specific blocks and made phone calls to hospitals and area retailers alerting them of the search efforts.

Howard Cook, Hellen's husband of 50 years, boarded a private aircraft Saturday morning and took a ride over parts of Kansas City, hoping to see his wife. The search did not reveal any answers.

"We choose to believe that she's out there. We just have to bring her home," Howard said.

The Cook family said it will continue to search and hold onto optimism until Hellen is found.  They are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call police.

Lamar Advertising has donated four billboards to help in the search efforts.
