Thieves targeted a KCK church over the weekend to steal cash and a secretary's wallet.

According the the secretary, two people walked into Zion United Church of Christ at 2711 North 72nd Street asking for help.

As she went to get coffee and donuts for the couple, the woman entered the church office where her purse and an envelope sat on the desk.

"The office is usually locked but someone must have accidentally left it unlocked, " said the victim.

The church secretary, who is also a 19-year member of the congregation, says the thieves used her credit card at a nearby convenience store. And the money in the envelope was from a raffle of a donated quilt.

The money raised in the raffle was slated to help a family for Christmas.

The church secretary did not want to be identified, but wants her loss to serve as a reminder to others.

"We always welcome anyone who needs to come and worship, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't keep your eyes open and pay attention.  This is the time of year when people want to take things that don't belong to them."

Kansas City, Kansas police were notified of the crime. Anyone with information is asked to contact law enforcement.
