KANSAS CITY, Mo. - About 12,000 runners braved the chilly conditions on Saturday as they participated in the 2012 Waddell and Reed Kansas City Marathon.
Runners had the option of running a 5K, a team relay, half or full marathon. The event even held a kids marathon for those ages 5 to 15 years old.
Those running the full marathon made their way from downtown Kansas City to Waldo and back again.
Thousands gathered along the streets to cheer on the runners. One runner said the fans make a difference.
"Kansas City's got a great course, probably one of the better ones in the nation," Curtis Phipps of Lawson, Mo. said. "It's just great to get out here, a very supportive crowd, and it makes you want to run a personal best."
