You think you’re hot right now? Try being covered with fur and having no real control over where your next slurp of water is coming from -- That’s the story for our four-legged friends.

Nickie Gibbs of Three Dog Bakery, along with her good friends Daisy and Brutus, had some great ideas for fighting the heat:

First of all, take the pooches inside during a heat wave like this and make sure they have plenty of room-temperature water available.

If you usually serve up the dry food, consider trying wet food in the hotter months to change it up and add hydration to the meal plan.

If your pup insists on a very short walk, a cool cloth wrapped around the pup’s neck is a great way to provide mobile A/C.

You can find specially designed water bottles with caps that make it easy for your best friend to take a drink on the go.

And of course, you can always give your buddy a bath!

Remember: You should never leave a dog in a hot car, and try not to walk them when the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand.
