Two suspected heat-related deaths reported in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The intense heat is suspected of contributing to the deaths of a man and an infant, according to the Kansas City Health Department.

The man was born in 1952; the infant boy was born in 2011. No other information was available about the victims or whether their deaths were related.

The Jackson County Medical Examiner is currently investigating the deaths.

A spokesman for the Kansas City Fire Department said they handled between seven and 10 heat-related emergency calls from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday.

The deaths are the first two suspected to be related to heat in 2012. A third possible heat-related death was reported on Friday.

Last year, 21 deaths were blamed on summer heat. In 2010, there were only four.
