UPDATE, 10/3: UAW Local 249 President Jeff Wright said there will not be any strike this weekend.

"There will not be any strike and work will go on as planned today and tomorrow," Wright told 41 Action News. "The next step is to have the membership, or all hourly workers, vote on the tentative plan."

Wright said no date has been set for the vote.

ORIGINAL STORY

Late on Friday night, representatives from United Auto Workers Local 249 announced that a tentative agreement has been reached with Ford Motor Company.

Bargaining Chairman Todd Hillyard issued a statement about the negotiations on the union’s Facebook page just after 11 p.m. Friday evening.

“I think we have reached an agreement that our members will be proud of,” Hillyard wrote. “We protected all of our members' seniority rights, improved safety provisions, along with many other things.”

Hillyard said details about the tentative agreement would be released in the near future. Local agreements typically do not have anything to do with salary or pay.

Earlier this week, UAW vice president and director Jimmy Settles gave Ford a 120-hour notice beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The deadline would have ended Sunday, meaning over 7,000 UAW workers could go on strike then.

The national contract with Ford expired on Sept. 14. However, employees continued working after an extension of the current deal was announced.

UAW workers at multiple Fiat Chrysler plants rejected a deal this week. Various reasons include no end to a two-tier pay system and no guarantees on the creation of new jobs.

The Claycomo plant produces the F-150 Truck and the Ford Transit commercial utility van.

The F-150 pickup is the most popular truck model produced by Ford.
