KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kirmayer Fitness Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center will host an open community workout Wednesday to help people keep their Thanksgiving Day feast in balance.
Fitness Center Director Amber Long says on average, Americans will eat a 3,000-calorie Thanksgiving meal. Adding in pre and post meal snacks could shoot the day's total intake to 4,500 calories.
To give people a head start, The Kirmayer Fitness Center has partnered with Harvesters to host an free workout from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The only entry fee is a non-perishable food item for Harvesters. Organizers hope people will come burn off a meal while providing a meal for others.
The Kirmayer Fitness Center is located on the southeast corner of Olathe and Rainbow boulevards.
