Traffic deaths are up 9 percent in the first six months of this year compared to the same period a year ago, according to the National Safety Council.
Some reasons behind the increased number of deaths include our improved economy, lower fuel prices and the increased amount of distractions behind the wheel.
The council also projects that more than 400 people will be killed on the roads during the upcoming Labor Day weekend that begins Sept. 2, which would make it the deadliest Labor Day weekend since 2008.
