Lenexa residents woke up to a rash of vehicle break-ins Tuesday morning.

At first, police said 15 vehicles had been rummaged through in the residential neighborhood near 109th and Hauser. As of Tuesday afternoon police said the number of burglaries was up to 23.

Police dispatch said apparently all the vehicles were unlocked, and there have been no reports of window breakage.

Authorities were called to the area shortly after 2 a.m.

Only change and other minor items have been reported stolen.

Regarding the protection of personal property, police are reminding everyone to stick with the basics.

"Take the time to lock your car. Take your valuables in with ya. Do everything you can to lower your chances of being a victim," said Dan Friesen, a master patrol officer with Lenexa police.

Officers recovered the pictured bicycle and have made contact with the owner.

Lenexa police are still investigating but said they are talking to a person of interest. No charges have been filed.

If you have any information about these crimes, please call the Lenexa Police Department at 913-477-7301.
