Police continued to search on Monday for whoever is responsible for a drive-by shooting outside the home of former KCMO City Councilman John Sharp.

The shooting happened last Thursday around 1 a.m. on East 103rd Terrace.

Days after the shooting, Sharp said he was worried for his safety.

"Before I go outside, I look around," said Sharp, who served two nonconsecutive terms on City Council from 1983 to 1991 and 2007 to 2015. "When I come home, I might drive around the block and make sure everything looks OK."

One neighbor described the drive-by car as a "dark burgundy sedan," but investigators have been unable to locate whoever is responsible.

On Monday, 41 Action News obtained a neighbor's home surveillance video capturing the moments when shots were fired.

A car can be seen slowly driving up to the home before visible flashes come from the car. If you cannot see the video player below, click here to watch.

"It came through the door and hit right there," explained Sharp, while showing a bullet hole on a wall inside his garage.

Other damage could easily be seen on Monday.

A car in Sharp's driveway had its rear windshield shattered after a shot hit the back of the vehicle.

"It hit here and it lodged in the plastic molding," said Sharp, pointing to the shattered glass and bullet hole inside the car.

Sharp has lived in the same KCMO neighborhood, which is home to many children and families, for over two decades.

After serving the community for over 20 years and recently helping in a campaign, the time and location of the shooting have led Sharp to believe he was targeted.

"It's pretty rare when people just shoot up a neighborhood just to shoot up a neighborhood," he explained. "If they were trying to kill me, the bullets would have gone through the windows."

Following the shooting, Sharp said family and friends reached out to him to make sure he was okay.

"I've gotten many calls from people who are concerned," he said.

Moving forward, Sharp said he will continue keeping a close eye outside his home as police search for whoever is responsible.

"Whenever a car comes down the street I look at it now, I'm not just thinking, 'Oh there's a car'," said Sharp.

If you have any information that may be helpful to the investigation, you are asked to call 816-474-TIPS.
