America's smartest cities list: Lawrence, Kansas cracks top 10

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Perhaps the University of Kansas is doing something right.

KU's home, Lawrence, has landed in the top 10 in Lumosity's Smartest Cities 2013.

College towns are prevalent on the list, with Ithaca, N.Y.; State College Penn.; and Lafeyette, Ind., making up the three smartest cities. They are home to Cornell and Ithaca College; Penn State; and Purdue, respectively.

Lawrence comes in at No. 9 on the list of 478 cities, towns and metropolitan areas.

We can hear the Missouri contingent already. Yes, Tiger fans and alumnus, you're on the list, too. But the University of Missouri's home of Columbia comes in a good deal lower, at No. 41 on the list.

Lumosity used data from more than 3 million people who played at least one of five of their brain games.
