MESQUITE, Texas - Ruled too big to play in his pee-wee football league, a 12-year-old boy is finally getting his chance on the gridiron.
Elijah Earnheart stands out on the football field. It's not his blocking skills or his ability to stop the rush that make him hard to miss, but something you can't coach: His size.
Elijah stands 6 foot 3 and weighs 300 pounds.
A few weeks ago, the pre-teen was told he exceeded the 135 pound weight limit for his pee wee team, but now he's being welcomed with open arms to the middle school team.
"He's so excited. He didn't even want to go to sleep last night," Cindy Earnheart said. "He's been trying to drink Monsters all day to have energy. He's just really excited for himself and his team."
Coach Matt Tecklenburg says Elijah is keeping it all in perspective.
"He doesn't talk about what's going on," Tecklenburg said. "He's just out there playing, having fun."
