Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak takes ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in honor of friend with ALS

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - 41 Action News Chief Meteorologist Gary Lezak took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in honor of a friend who has ALS.

Dean Stephens was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, in March. The Knasas native is now inspiring others to take the Ice Bucket Challenge and help find a cure for ALS.

Lezak said Stephens is a good friend and when he heard Stephens’ story, Lezak decided to take the challenge in honor of him.

"OK, this is for Dean, a friend of ours here in Kansas City, for the Dean team. He has ALS and he is just an inspiration to us all,” Lezak said in his Ice Bucket Challenge video.

Lezak then challenged fellow 41 Action News Meteorologist J.D. Rudd; Collin Haim, Lezak’s favorite singer from the band Men at Work; and Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
