Family discovers early 1900s history in dresser drawer

(WFIE) - A Mount Vernon, Ill., family discovered hidden history inside a dresser drawer.

Vicki Garrison's 12-year-old daughter opened a dresser drawer and discovered an envelope containing a marriage license, a burial certificate and pictures dating back to the early 1900s.

"It's amazing because this drawer has been out hundreds of times," says Garrison. "I don't know how we missed it."

Garrison said she bought the dresser for $15 at a yard sale in Mount Vernon at least 10 years ago.

After a report on the discovery aired, Garrison was contacted by a great-great-granddaughter of the couple named on the marriage certificate.

"Family is family," said Garrison, "and this belongs with them."
