KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Doug Jones is the lucky winner of two Chiefs tickets to Sunday's re-match between the Denver Broncos and the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. He bought several raffle tickets to help a friend and breast cancer survivor, Dawn Pena.
Dawn is having reconstructive surgery in January and doesn't have health insurance so her husband LeRoy decided to raffle two tickets to Sunday's game. But after getting the tickets Wednesday, Doug decided not to go to the game.
The Pena's story aired on 41 Action News two weeks ago. After three weeks of selling the raffle tickets, the Penas raised about $3,000. They asked Cynthia Newsome to pull the winning raffle ticket live on the air Wednesday during the midday news. Later that day, the Penas took the Chiefs tickets to Doug and thanked him for his generosity.
"We are so grateful for his support and all of the friends and even strangers who decided to help me pay for my surgery," Dawn said.
Doug said he is happy to win but he's not going to the game.
"I've decided to put these two tickets on
Craigslist when I go home tonight and all the money we raise will go to Dawn for her surgery," Doug said.
"I' didn't expect this and I'm overwhelmed with how selling these tickets to bless my wife has been such a blessing to both of us," LeRoy said.
