MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. - Recovery efforts are underway after a man went overboard Saturday afternoon at Hillsdale Lake.
According to authorities, the call came in around 3:30 p.m. Two children were found alone in a boat, claiming their dad was missing. The children were wearing life jackets; however, early reports indicate the man was not.
There are between 30 and 35 responders, including two dive teams, on the scene, searching the lake for any sign of the man. They have also brought in sonar equipment to help with the search.
Just after 5 p.m., authorities declared the mission a search and recovery rather than a search and rescue mission.
"This is a heavy toll. Today is Saturday, we got still more days in the weekend," said Rodger Larison, Battalion Chief of the Johnson County Fire District 2.
The family is said to be from Leawood, Kan.
