There’s an old song from World War One called “How Ya Gonna Keep ‘Em Down on the Farm (After They’ve Seen Paree)?”

Well, here’s one way: Take them to the 57th Annual Western Farm Show at the American Royal Complex this weekend!

If it is a part of the farming and ranching industries, it is here.

According to show manager Ken Dean, there are some 500 exhibitors ready for thousands of visitors over the next three days.

Friday, February 23, will be a mini-invasion of the Blue Coats as Future Farmers of America take over the complex, with a focus on careers in agriculture.

(The FFA’ers will also be competing in a “Border War” for Harvesters. The winning state will be the one that brings the most cans and non-perishable food.)

Saturday brings cooking demonstrations from the Culinary Center of Kansas City and low-stress livestock demonstrations.

Because, a happy cow is a profitable cow.

Mixed in with the mammoth examples of machinery smaller tractors and farm implements make this a wonderland for those working the land.

There’s also a look at how technology is changing the face of farming with things like driver-less tractors.

Somewhere, a curious Old MacDonald is smiling!
