The name of the conference is controversial but its founder says the information is necessary for everyone.
Kansas City will host the White Privilege Conference for the first time in the conference's 18 year history. It starts on Thursday.
Eddie Moore Jr., is the founder of the conference that started in Iowa.
"This is not about making white people bad or saying they're bad people. This is about a structural design that those of us living today had nothing to do with but we're often dealing with its affects," said Moore Jr.
The four-day event is designed to empower and equip attendees to work for equity and justice.
Moore understands that the name of the conference is unsettling for some. But added that it attracts a diverse group of attendees who have a transformational experience based on understanding, respecting and connecting.
"Privilege means you have it; someone else doesn't have it and the way you have it isn't necessarily to your doing. We also look at ability, religion, language, culture. Really exploring the issue of privilege comprehensively," said Moore Jr.
The conference starts on April 27th and runs through April 30th at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Kansas City.
