KANSAS CITY, Mo. - A woman has been charged with manslaughter in connection with a wreck that killed an unborn child.
Chelsea C. Summer, 24, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, second-degree assault, and driving with a revoked license, following the June 7 wreck on the Heart of America Bridge, according to a news release.
Officers detected the odor of alcohol coming from Summer's vehicle, according to the release. Witnesses told police the truck driven by Summer was driving the wrong direction in the southbound lane on the bridge when she collided head-on with a vehicle being driven by a 21-year-old pregnant woman.
The release cited preliminary reports from the Jackson County Medical Examiner's office that the wreck caused the injuries that led to the unborn child's death.
Summer is currently being held on a $150,000 bond.
