KANSAS CITY, Mo. - One driver was killed and a pedestrian seriously injured in a four-car wreck at 920 Winchester Avenue Friday afternoon.
According to police, the driver of a minivan made a U-turn in front of a white pickup truck that was driving north on Winchester around 4:45 p.m. The truck hit the van, which then struck two cars parked on the side of the road. The pedestrian, who was reportedly cleaning her car at the time of the crash, was trapped under her Jeep.
Multiple ambulances were sent to the scene.
One of the people in the truck was also taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The other person refused treatment.
Daniel Bennington is the brother of the pedestrian who was trapped. He said his sister was in critical but stable condition Friday night.
"I would say she's pretty lucky to be alive," Bennington said. "It's amazing how quickly something can happen like that."
He said that stretch of Winchester has had a problem with speeders for months.
"I come over here quite a bit, and I see cars speeding up and down this street all the time," Bennington said. "It can be kind of dangerous over here."
Next-door neighbor Eduardo Diaz has lived in the area for 15 years. He said he's tried to get the police to crack down on the reckless driving.
"We even make some reports to the police officers," Diaz said. "It's too sad they don't do something before this happens."
