LAWRENCE, Kan. - Sarah Brooke Gonzales McLinn, missing from Lawrence, Kan., for a few weeks, has been found safe in Florida, according to a news release from the Lawrence Police Department.
Authorities in Florida contacted Lawrence police late Saturday evening, according to the release, to try and confirm Gonzales McLinn's identity. Lawrence police flew to Florida this morning and verified her identity. She appears uninjured and the vehicle missing from the scene of a homicide in her residence has been located.
"We're grateful that she's found and we just want to thank everyone for their prayers," sister Ashley McLinn told 41 Action News.
On Jan. 19, police found the body of 52-year-old Harold Sasko . Police said Gonzales McLinn had been staying in his home , but that she had not been seen for days prior to the discovery of his body. Sasko had been beaten to death, police said.
In their Sunday evening release, police did not state the specific Florida law enforcement agency seeking information about Gonzales McLinn. They did state she was found with the 2008 Nissan Altima that had been registered to Sasko and had been listed in previous reports about her disappearance.
Her family released a statement on Sunday pleading for her safe return, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.
