Indiana pileup: At least 40 vehicles in Interstate 70 wreck

HENDRICKS COUNTY, Ind. (WRTV) - At least 40 vehicles, including several tractor-trailers, were involved in a pileup on westbound Interstate 70 in Hendricks County, Ind., on Thursday.

The crash happened just after 2 p.m. near State Road 267. Both directions of the highway were shut down.

Twelve people had been taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not released.

Police said Thursday's blowing snow and frigid temperatures contributed to the crash.

Chief Meteorologist Kevin Gregory at RTV6, our Scripps station in Indianapolis, said heavy snow squalls fell at times, alternating with moments of sunshine.
