LIBERTY, MO - One local band gets an opportunity of a lifetime. The Liberty North High School marching band is playing for President Barack Obama at his second inauguration in Washington on Monday.
The band is the only in the State of Missouri that will play in the Inaugural Parade.
Saturday, the band boarded a bus for a 17-hour trip to the nation's capital. The band will join nearly 50 bands from across the nation The band will play "Liberty Bell March" in front of 600,000 to 800,000 people at the national mall.
"It's kind of nerve wrecking but we've prepared for a long time so we're ready," said Liberty North High School band student Breana Aranda.
The Joint Task Force-National Capital Region selected the bands to be included in the parade. Band Director Shane Fuller worked hard to get the students noticed. He received an official invitation in December 2012.
"We honestly had no idea. It was a big surprise to everyone so I'm glad that we got chosen for it," said Aranda.
Students planned to do some sightseeing while in Washington, including the National Monument.
