Missouri voters decide several statewide races

All eyes on US Senate race

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri's election is wrapping up for six statewide offices and a presidential campaign.

Receiving the most attention is the U.S. Senate race between Democrat Claire McCaskill and Republican Todd Akin. The campaign has been on the national political radar this fall and could prove critical in determining which party controls the U.S. Senate.

Meanwhile, the presidential race has been comparatively sleepy in Missouri with neither campaign holding public events here.

Closer to home, the economy has been the marquee issue in the governor's race. Democrat Jay Nixon is trying to become the first incumbent to win re-election in 16 years, and Republican Dave Spence contends economic progress has lagged.

Other statewide races will decide Missouri's lieutenant governor, secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general.
