Search for missing KU student enters day four

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Hundreds of friends and family members of a missing University of Kansas student gathered in Olathe on Monday evening in support of the search for 23-year-old Yelakal Alemu.

Alemu, who is better known as Kal, was last seen Friday night in Lawrence.  He was reported missing Saturday.

Lawrence Police found his light green Toyota Yaris abandoned in a rural part of Douglas County on Saturday night.

Kal's mother Helen Alemu said she was expecting him to come home Saturday for a family event.  When he never showed, she began to panic.

The 2007 graduate of Olathe South High School was in his fourth year at KU.  He lived with his parents and commuted to Lawrence until this past August.  Since then, he's lived in Lawrence with friends and came home almost every weekend, his family said.

Kal is 5 feet 10 inches, and about 170 lbs. He was last seen wearing the striped shirt shown in the picture above. He currently has short hair and a full beard.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Lawrence Police Department at 785-832-7509 or the Douglas County Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline at 843-TIPS.
