Second body found in De Soto, Kan. within 24 hours

JOHNSON COUNTY, Mo. - The Johnson County Sheriff's Department tells 41 Action News that a second body has been discovered in De Soto, Kan.

Authorities say the body was found outside, near an apartment complex at Ottawa and Lexington Avenue.

Public Information Officer Tom Erickson with the Johnson County Sheriff's Office said the victim is a white male in his late 20s.

The discovery comes after a body was found Tuesday near 95th and Sunflower, a mile and a half from the area where the motorcycle of missing 22-year-old Olathe man, Brad Cook, was found last week.

In a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, Erickson said the body found on Wednesday morning is not connected to the body found Tuesday.

Detectives from the Johnson County Sheriff's Department have given strong "indications" that a body found near 95th and Sunflower is Cook. A spokesman said there would be no official word on the identity until Wednesday, at the earliest.

The bodies were found approximately 2.4 miles apart, on each side of K-10. Police have not provided any details as to if the second body found is related to the Cook case.

Cook left his sister's home in Olathe around 10:15 p.m. last Sunday, leaving behind his cell phone and wallet. His motorcycle was later discovered unlocked and seemingly abandoned at a bike shop in De Soto.

Investigators have been examining surveillance video from a nearby liquor store for clues and volunteers have canvassed rural Johnson County every day looking for a young man whose parents described as a driven, hardworking son.
