SHAWNEE, Kan. - A Shawnee resident claims he spotted a bobcat Sunday morning while he was out walking his dog.
Darren Wilhite tells NBC Action News he was out walking his dog in the area of Johnson Drive and Pflumm Road when he spotted the bobcat in the woods eating a rabbit.
Wilhite said neither his dog nor the bobcat were spooked by the encounter.
Shawnee Police dispatchers said they have not received any bobcat sighting calls this weekend. Shawnee Animal Control officers weren't immediately available for further information.
An owner with Catch-It Wildlife and Pest Control, Inc. in Raytown said that while bobcats sightings can be common in suburban areas, they are only called out to try and catch them once or twice a year.
