LENEXA, Kan. - Construction crews have reduced I-435 south to one lane at 87th Street in Kansas so they can perform emergency repairs on the right shoulder.
The Kansas Department of Transportation is warning drivers to expect major delays.
Even before this closure, the road was reduced to two lanes in each direction for bridge repair. That work shifted traffic partly onto the right shoulder, and the extra traffic damaged the pavement. Crews then had to close the right lane so they can work on the right shoulder.
They hope to have a second lane open by the Wednesday morning commute.
The overall bridge project is scheduled to end in August.
