TOPEKA, Kan. - A Johnson County, Kan., football player is now a hero after he fought off two attackers in Topeka, even after being stabbed in the leg.
Brett Sterbach of Shawnee Mission West High School played in the Shrine Bowl All-Star game at Washburn University on Saturday.
When his family made a stop at a nearby gas station, he fought off two would-be robbers, one of whom was carrying a knife.
The 18-year-old old was able to wrestle the knife away and police say Sterbach stabbed one of the attackers in the abdomen.
Sterbach had to go to the hospital for a few stitches.
Police have not yet made any arrests.
