Lenexa residents win small battle against proposed Grinder's

LENEXA, Kan. - Residents in Lenexa won a small battle against a restaurant owner Monday, who wants to hold outdoor events year-round.

STRETCH, the owner of Grinder's in downtown Kansas City, is building a new restaurant in Lenexa. He recently filed a rezoning application with the city so he could hold 12 outdoor events each year. But residents fought back.

Lenexa resident Debbie Ball said the owner withdrew the application Monday.

STRETCH will still be able to open the Grinder's restaurant -- but without the rezoning, only four outdoor events can be held there each year. All of those events will need prior approval from city council members.

Ball said she was pleased with the compromise.

Even though STRETCH withdrew the application, he can still reapply at any time. If the application is not approved, he would have to wait a year before reapplying.

The restaurant will be built on the two-acre lot at 103rd and Pflumm.
