OLATHE, Kansas - The mother of a 6-year-old boy found malnourished in his DeSoto home last week requested a bond reduction Thursday so she could post bail and be admitted to a residential facility for high-risk pregnancies.
Lindsay Shively was in the courtroom Thursday and has the story in the video player on the left.
Rachel Perez mad the request in a Johnson County courthouse in Olathe. Her judge differed judgment and scheduled a future court date so he could determine if medical needs warrant reducing her bond from $250,000.
Perez, four months pregnant, is charged with aggravated endangerment and child abuse. Johnson County Sheriff’s Deputies found her 6-year-old son in the attic of her home in the 8200 block of Center Drive last Tuesday.
A relative had called to check the welfare of the boy, but Perez told authorities he was not at home. She was arrested on an unrelated warrant and it wasn’t until the relative called a second time and deputies returned to the home that they found the boy in the attic.
Perez’ mother was in court Thursday, but declined to comment. She is seeking custody of the child.
