LEAWOOD, Kan. - A new law that takes effect January 1 preventing Americans from adopting Russian children has caught the attention of a Johnson County couple.

Leawood resident Debra Gill and her husband, Michael, know how difficult it is to adopt Russian children since they've done it twice. Gill finds it hard to imagine what the families about to adopt are now going through.
Gill said the process is very difficult, but being the parents of two bright teenage girls is more rewarding than she ever thought.
"Somehow, we came together as a family," she said. "I've always felt that it was just an unbelievable thing that happened, because we just fit so well together."
Gill said she can only hope that one day the ban will be lifted and other American families will experience what she's enjoyed for the last 15 years.
