Gas leak keeps students outside KCK elementary

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - An odor of gas caused teachers at Willard Elementary school in Kansas City, Kan., to keep students outside on the bus for a short time Thursday morning.

Teachers had arrived for the day at the school at 34th and Orville, but students were not yet in the building when the gas odor prompted a call to the fire department.

Teachers then evacuated the building, as students were kept on busses for a short time.

Fire crews determined that a panel on the furnace had come off.

It was secured, and classes began as normal, and the day was not interrupted.

No injuries were reported.
