Longtime KCK grocery store closes its doors

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Lipari Brothers Thriftway has been a staple in Kansas City, Kan., for years. But that all changed Saturday as the store closed its doors at 5 p.m.

Loyal employees and hundreds of customers exchanged fond memories and hugs at the store. Lipari Brothers has been in the Armourdale neighborhood for 58 years.

Mary Allen started as cashier 46 years ago. She has immense respect for the owner, John Lipari.

“It's so sad it makes me want to cry,” she said. “They've been so nice down here, everybody the customers. You just feel like you’re family.”

The owners hosted a small party for their loyal customers.

Family Dollar has bought the property.
