Mother of man found in freezer in Kansas City, Kan., shares her grief

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Neighbors in a Kansas City, Kan., neighborhood have learned the identity of the man found stuffed in a freezer, but they still have a lot of questions.

Last Sunday, police found 53-year-old Lawrence Muirhead's body inside of a freezer hidden in a shed behind a house in the 1800 block of New Jersey Avenue. He'd been missing since October.

Muirhead was the Arizona truck driver whose tractor-trailer was found abandoned along Shawnee Mission Parkway in October.

Alyke Muirhead, Lawrence's mother, lives in New Mexico and said she got the call from detectives on Wednesday while celebrating Lawrence’s 3-year-old son’s birthday.

"I'm packing presents for the third birthday; detective called I told him it's not a good time, he said I need to talk to you now," Alyke said.

She said Lawrence had been shot in the head before his body was stuffed in a freezer.

"Now we at least know where he is. He's not just out there being held by someone or something awful," she said.

Kansas City, Kan., police would not comment on the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made in the case.
