One person was transported to an area hospital after a fire at a retirement home in Kansas City, Kan., early Friday.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Fire crews rescued an 80-year-old woman and her two grandchildren from a bedroom during a fire at a retirement home in Kansas City, Kan., early Friday.
Fire officials say the blaze started in the woman's apartment in the fifth floor of the Glanville Towner, 730 Nebraska Ave.
The fire was reported at about 4:06 a.m. It was under control within about 20 minutes. It started in and was contained to the kitchen.
According to a statement from the Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department, the woman and her grandchildren, ages 10 and 13, had taken refuge in a bedroom.
Authorities say the woman was treated on the scene for minor smoke inhalation and taken to an area hospital for observation.
