A nonprofit organization known as Downtown Shareholders is working hard to reduce crime in Kansas City, Kansas, and it's proving to be a success.

Jennifer Johnson, who manages, A Cup on The Hill, knows firsthand this program is helping to reduce crime in the area.

According to information provided by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, between 2008 and 2014, total crime within the Downtown Improvement District service area declined 19 percent, with vandalism dropping a full 36 percent.

Downtown Shareholders incorporated a security and cleaning ambassador program that works with local business owners. The nonprofit hopes the success will help bring new business owners to the downtown area.
