2 killed, 1 injured in shooting at KCK apartment complex

Shooting happened inside laundry room

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Two people are dead and a third is injured after a shooting inside a Kansas City, Kan., apartment building.

Police were called to the Suntree Apartments, in the 3000 block of Suntree Plaza, around 9 a.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two men fatally shot inside a laundry room.

Two hours later, police located a third man with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Dolesta Stamps said her 17-year-old grandson, Earnest Stamps III, was among the victims. She said he was most likely visiting his brother, who lived at the complex.

Stamps described Earnest as a kind and friendly boy, and said she had no idea who would want to kill him.

"It's a tragedy, it's truly, truly (a) tragedy," she said. "Whoever did this -- the family is grieving. Come forth, do what you gotta do."

No suspect information was immediately available. If you know anything about what happened, call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
