Court docs: Mother charged with murder, newborn baby girl found dead in Olathe trash can

OLATHE, Kan. - Olathe police released court documents Wednesday that describe the health of a newborn baby girl before the baby's body was found dead in a trash can.

The mother, 19-year-old Marissa Carol Fields, is charged with abandoning and murdering her baby last December.

Her father contacted police after finding the baby in the trash.

According to the affidavit, Fields told police she was only five months pregnant when she gave birth.

She said the baby was blue and cold to the touch, and eventually turned white.

However, the autopsy report shows that the baby was a well-developed, healthy baby -- born five pounds, six ounces and 19 inches long.

The autopsy also said the baby's lungs were expanded with air.

During a search warrant, police found web searches on Fields' phone for "38 weeks pregnant" and "how to naturally induce a miscarriage". A typical pregnancy lasts 40 weeks.

There was also a text message between her and a friend.

After the friend sent a text message asking why Fields doesn't want children, Fields responded, "I don't want that responsibility."

Fields is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
