Overland Park police issue warning of phone scam

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Overland Park Police Department is warning residents about a scammer calling and asking for your money.

Police say the caller poses as the police department, and even uses a computer system to alter caller ID information.

During the call, they tell victims that a family member is in police custody and needs money for bail.

OPPD says they would never contact anyone via phone and ask for money.

If you receive a call similar to this, you are asked to contact police.
