OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - Overland Park army veteran John Eichenberger lost his leg while deployed, and The Home Depot is helping make his home easier to get around in.
Eichenberger was serving in Afghanistan in 2009 when he stepped on an IED. His leg was blown off, and he was immediately sent home to recover.
Tuesday, about 30 volunteers from the Home Depot will be making Eichenberger's house more accessible. They are redoing his cabinets and making his back balcony stairs easier to get up and down.
The transformation is part of The Home Depot's Celebration of Service, where more than 9,000 associates will complete 35 service projects throughout the country to ensure all veterans have a safe place to call home.
