OVERLAND PARK, Kan. - The Roe Avenue Bridge is coming down. The bridge was built in 1970 and started deteriorating a couple years ago.
Traffic won't be able to cross Interstate 435 along Roe Avenue until October.
This will give crews time to take down the bridge and build a new one.
Lane closures start Wednesday. Thursday, eastbound and westbound I-435 exit ramps to Roe Avenue will close.
KDOT said they're saving 10 percent of the cost by bringing the bridge down all at once and diverting traffic.
Demolition of the bridge will take place overnight this weekend. Kim Qualls with KDOT says crews will film the bridge demolition.
"This will not be a public viewing demo because for the fact that with the radius there is no place to view it," said Qualls.
Interstate 435 will close between Roe and Nall during the overnight hours Friday and Saturday.
