KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Trayvon Martin supporters on both sides of the state line gathered Saturday as part of a nationwide series of 'Justice for Trayvon' events.
The Associated Press reported that over 100 rallies took place nationwide Saturday, one week after a jury found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of Martin, an unarmed teen.
The AP also reported supporters gathered mainly to press for federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman, a former neighborhood watch leader.
Many of the rallies occurred outside federal buildings, including the rally in Kansas City, Mo. at the federal courthouse on 9th Street downtown on Saturday morning.
Supporters also planned a rally at 6 p.m. at Big Eleven Lake, located at 11th and Washington in Kansas City, Kan. Some streets will be blocked off in the area.
