LIBERTY, Mo. - Crime in the northland has decreased, according to a news release from the Clay County Commission on Tuesday.
Sheriff Vescovo reported a 30 percent drop in burglaries, 2 percent drop in larceny and 1 percent fewer "simple assault," at a monthly Kearney Chamber of Commerce luncheon.
"When the Commission unanimously passed the 2013 budget in January, we put law enforcement and public safety at the top of our spending priority list," Commissioner Pamela Mason said in the release.
Through various government spending cuts, the commission reports the public safety budget was increased by $227,000 for 2013.
