Community mourns five people killed in Archie, Mo. crash

ARCHIE, Mo. - A horrific crash on Thursday night left debris scattered across the road, and a community in mourning.

A Hyundai Elantra carrying five people crashed, killing everyone inside.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a truck broadsided the car, which was skidding sideways across the road after overcorrecting, around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, east of Archie, Mo.

The vehicle was driven by 32-year-old Jason Rittermeyer, In the vehicle along with Rittermeyer were his children, 10-year-old Noah, 9-year-old Sage, 8-year-old Anna and girlfriend, 22-year-old Aleah Lucas of Olathe, Kan.

The driver of the truck has minor injuries.

According to this family's church, there is one sibling who was not in the car, 16-year-old Jonas, who is now coping with the loss of his father, his father's girlfriend and his three younger siblings.

Logan Taylor lives just down the road from the Rittermeyer family and said throughout the years, Jason had become his right hand man.

"His cows would get out, I'd put them back in. My stock would get out and he'd put them back in," Taylor said, "We didn't have to worry about one another. He had the key to my shop, I had a key to his gate. That's the kind of relationship we had."

Taylor said while he is in a state of shock, he is also hurting for 16-year-old Jonas.

"I can't imagine what he's going through, I just can't imagine," Taylor said.

The Rittermeyers attended Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church near Harrisonville. The pastor said his congregation will do anything it can to help Jonas.
