Girl, 14, dies in Ray County ATV crash: Marlene Eicher pronounced dead at scene

RAY COUNTY, Mo. - A 14-year-old girl from Virginia died Tuesday night when she lost control of an ATV and crashed through a fence in Ray County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Marlene J. Eicher, of Rose Hill, Va., was driving the ATV on E. 188th Street at about 7:45 p.m. just east of Dockery Road when she lost control, went off the roadway and through a fence.

The ATV overturned and landed on top of Marlene, the Patrol said in a preliminary crash report.

Marlene was the only person on the ATV. She was not wearing a safety belt, according to the Patrol report. It was unclear if she was wearing a helmet.

According to ATVsafety.gov, at least 13 ATV-related deaths were reported nationwide between March 12 and March 25 of this year. One of the victims was under the age of 16.
