INDEPENDENCE, Mo. - Day three in the case of a missing 10-year-old Denver girl isn't bringing the news an Independence family wanted to hear.
Jessica Ridgeway disappeared Friday morning in Denver, Colorado. An AMBER Alert was issued for the girl. Her father, Jeremiah Bryant, lives in Independence with her great grandmother, Donna Moss. Police have been searching a park where she was last seen.
They have now shifted their investigation to a subdivision in another town about 15 miles north, where a man made a discovery that could help find her,
"An email was distributed about a backpack he found outside of his home. He wrote an email that said there's property in there that has the name of Jessica Ridgeway", said Trevor Materasso, Westminster Police officer.
Police said Jessica was last seen walking to a park around 8:30 a.m. Friday, where she was to meet several friends before walking to school. Jessica's mother stood in the front yard of their home until her daughter was out of sight.
Jessica never showed up at school. The school left a voicemail on Jessica's mother's phone. Her mother works nights and was asleep when the call came.
Police said they were notified Jessica was missing by her mom around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Donna Moss told 41 Action News that at one point, police thought that Jessica may have come to see her father in the Kansas City area.
"The police asked if they could search my house and I said 'Yes' because we'd do anything in the world to get her back. Safely, alive however we can have her back. We want her back as soon as we can get her," Moss said.
Moss added, "With 10-year-olds, you can't ever tell what they're going to do. Sometimes they get led astray."
Back in Denver, more than 800 volunteers spent their Saturday searching for Ridgeway at the park where she was last seen.
A dive team searched a lake at the park Saturday afternoon. The search was done as a search tool to rule out the lake, police said.
Police also checked every registered sex offender in the area.
Moss said she last saw Ridgeway six weeks ago.
Anyone with information on the possible whereabouts of Jessica is asked to call police, (303) 658-4360.
